Cyrus Engerer: ‘Trump’s Attempt To Humiliate Europe Has Backfired’

Donald Trump’s attempts to “humiliate and isolate” Europe has backfired and made the continent stronger, former PL MEP Cyrus Engerer has argued.
After European, Turkish, Canadian, Ukrainian and NATO leaders convened in London for a summit about the future of Ukraine, Engerer said that Trump’s strategy.
“Trump’s game to leave Europe alone and portray it as a loser only served to prove our strength based on what is right,” he said.
“For years, he mocked our unity, questioned our relevance, and hoped we would crumble. He believed that bullying allies and siding with aggressors would make the world bow to him. Instead, it did the opposite.”
“His attacks have only pushed Europe—and democracies from Canada to Türkiye —closer together. His attempts to humiliate have backfired, proving that seriousness, solidarity, and standing on the right side of history (rather than to gain profits) matter more.”
Engerer ripped into Trump for his public berating of Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy.
“Many people felt sadness and disbelief as we watched on live television a bully trying to belittle a victim,” he said.
“It was a cruel injustice—kicking someone who was already down. The sight left a deep, unsettling ache, a reminder of how easily compassion can be replaced with cruelty. But it also lit a fire—a determination to stand up, to fight for justice, and to ensure that no one suffering is ever made to feel smaller for their pain.”
“While the U.S. under Trump isolates itself, the rest of the democratic world is strengthening its alliances. And those who once thought they could shake Europe’s resolve are seeing just how wrong they were. Today’s unity and ambition make one thing clear: democracy isn’t weakening—it’s fighting back.”
