Dalli Says Enemalta’s Substations Upgraded For ‘Less Waiting And More Efficiency’
An automated switchgear is being installed in Enemalta substations to ensure a more stable electric supply while facilitating faster repairs in case of damage, Energy Minister Miriam Dalli said.
These works are ongoing in several substations, and are aimed at minimising repair times when a fault occurs.
“These works will ensure more security and efficiency and shorter waiting times. I thank the teams involved for their continuous work.”
The works consist of the installation of temporary switchgear while structural works such as excavation to house the new equipment are undertaken. This will be followed by the installation of the new equipment when rigorous testing will take place before the switchgear is connected to the grid.
These works follow a gruelling summer for Enemalta as a number of power cuts hit Malta during a merciless heatwave in July. The power failures were apparently caused by the high heat which resulted in cable faults.
Do you think this will secure our energy supply for the next heatwave?
