Daniel Meli Wins Court Case And Won’t Be Extradited To United States

Malta won’t extradite Daniel Meli to the United States, where he is wanted for allegedly selling illegal malware on the dark web.
The courts ruled today that Meli, 28, shouldn’t be extradited to the US.
Meli had initially agreed to extradition following legal advice, but changed his mind after learning about the potential implications.

His parents fought tooth and nail against their son’s extradition, and his mother Lucienne Meli gave a heartfelt interview to Lovin Malta where she warned that a prison sentence in the US would be akin to a “death sentence”.
Public pressure resulted in the government amending the law to allow people who agreed to an extradition 15 days to apply for a review.
Lawyers Franco Debono and Arthur Azzopardi represented Meli.
