Daniel Micallef To Step Down As PL Deputy Leader, Says He Took Decision Two Years Ago
Daniel Micallef has confirmed that he intends to resign as PL deputy for party affairs but will remain in his position through a transition period.
Micallef said he informed Prime Minister Robert Abela two years ago that he intends to step down as deputy leader following the European Parliament elections. He said he also hinted at his intentions during a PL rally in Paola, when he said that “I am here today, but someone else will be here tomorrow”.
“I was also clear in my comments to ONE in the counting hall, and yesterday I brought it up to the PL executive,” he said.

“I’m not saying I took this decision two years ago to shrug off responsibility for the election results. As the Prime Minister said yesterday, I believe the people sent a number of messages on Saturday, which must be understood and necessary decisions taken.”
“I am committed to continue helping the party where I can, so long as life circumstances permit me to. I don’t need an official position to continue helping the party and Robert Abela.”
“I urge others to do likewise and join the hundreds of volunteers who are already working with the party, who I thank from the bottom of my heart.”
