A festival marking the fifth anniversary of the assassination of Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia is set to take place between 3rd and 10th October.

The Daphne Festival, happening in London, Malta and online, will bring together human rights and press freedom organisations as well as journalists, artists, activists and campaigners from around the world to remember Daphne, celebrate the legacy of her work and highlight the ongoing campaign for justice.

In London, the festival will centre around St John’s Waterloo and will reflect some of the most important issues related to Daphne’s case.

It will feature events on women journalists from across the globe who face threats because of their work, the growing momentum for introducing anti-SLAPP legislation in the UK and Europe as well as the creative legacy and expression of the past five years, inspired by Daphne and her story.

You can find a full list of events over here.

Daphne was assassinated on 16th October 2017 and while certain culprits have been arrested, only one person has been sentenced so far after entering a guilty plea.

Meanwhile, recommendations established by a public inquiry which found the state indirectly responsible for her assassination by fostering a culture of impunity, are yet to be implemented and are shrouded in secrecy.

The aim of this festival is to join in the rallying chorus for justice for Daphne and other journalists around the world who have suffered harassment, imprisonment and even death for their work.
