Charlie U T-Tieġ: How Dar Bjorn Saved The Cassar Family
It’s no secret that ALS and other neurological conditions can take a toll on not only the patient but the whole family unit. This was exactly the case when Charlie Cassar was diagnosed with ALS.
Joan, his wife, was told that Charlie only had nine months left to live. Back then she was 47 years old, and it felt like her whole world shattered.
But, Charlie persevered and Joan spent the next sixteen years taking care of her husband and making sure that he was always as comfortable as possible.
In ALS Malta+’s newest podcast episode of Marelli, hosted by Maria, Joan opens up about the struggles that she and her family had to face and she also lets us in on a sweet little story about Charlie and Dar Bjorn.
Meet Joan and hear what she had to say about Dar Bjorn and just how much it helped ease her mind and helped Charlie get his infectious smile back. Dar Bjorn even helped Charlie get ready for his daughter’s wedding, leaving the house all pressed and dressed, ready for pictures.
Thanks to Dar Bjorn, Joan and Charlie can now enjoy the beauty of life together. Joan is no longer burdened with ensuring that Charlies’ care is top-notch, so she too can unwind and watch a movie without any stress.
On Sunday 25th September, make sure to tune in to all of the major Maltese television channels where the fundraiser Ngħinu Aktar will be kicking off.
Dar Bjorn Respite is soon done, but Bjorn and Maria need your help to reach the finish line and continue helping people like Joan and Charlie.
