Dar Bjorn To Receive Investment Of Over €7 Million From Aġenzija Sapport
An agreement has been reached for an investment of over €7 million over a period of three years between Aġenzija Sapport within the Ministry for Inclusion, and the ALS Malta Foundation.
This agreement will play a crucial role in enabling Dar Bjorn to expand its range of services for individuals with various disabilities.
Thirty more individuals will benefit from this agreement, in addition to the 13 individuals who are already benefiting from a previous agreement at Dar Bjorn in Ħal Qormi.
The agreement was signed by Inclusion Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli. She stated that the signing of this agreement is a testament to the government’s strong belief that voluntary organisations are an integral part of our country’s progress.
“Dar Bjorn not only symbolises this progress, but it also serves as a clear model of how a volunteer organisation can be the voice for the disability sector and a model of how we can provide the best services. Through NGOs, the private sector, and unprecedented government investment, we will continue to shed light on the needs of people with disabilities,” said Minister Farrugia Portelli.
The CEO of the Aġenzija Sapport, Oliver Scicluna, explained that this agreement will address the need for specialised services for individuals due to their specific health conditions, depending on their medical situation.
He added that individuals will have the choice to live, receive care, and support in a modern and dignified facility at the heart of the community. Aġenzija Sapport will continue to collaborate with other entities to ensure that these specialised services can reach and assist more individuals with disabilities through joint efforts and holistic services.
On his part, Bjorn Formosa, founder of ALS Malta, expressed gratitude to the government for the assistance provided to enable the provision of top-quality services at Dar Bjorn while looking ahead to continue addressing the challenges faced by individuals affected by conditions such as ALS.
Aġenzija Sapport will be responsible for the implementation of this agreement, giving priority to individuals with disabilities who have severe neurological conditions such as ALS, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Cerebral Palsy, Huntington’s Disease, and severe conditions related to paralysis, among others.
Meanwhile, the ALS Malta Foundation is committed to providing services on a 24-hour basis to residents, offering them a holistic program that meets their needs, including residential care, assistance in medical, social, and psychological aspects, among others.
The collaboration between the Aġenzija Sapport and the ALS Malta Foundation dates back to the opening of the first Dar Bjorn in Ħal Qormi. Current agreements also exist with the Nazareth Foundation, Wens Foundation, Arka Foundation, Dar tal-Providenza, Dar il-Kaptan, Malta Autism Center, and Embrace Diversity. Throughout the past year, 494 individuals with disabilities have benefited from these collaborations.
The agreement was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Inclusion, Nancy Caruana, ALS Malta Founder Bjorn Formosa, and CEO of the Sapport Agency, Oliver Scicluna.
