Degiorgio Brothers Claim They ‘Never Received Money From Yorgen Fenech’ Despite Court Evidence
The Degiorgio Brothers, the two men who admitted to the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, have released yet another statement, accusing middleman Melvin Theuma of lying under oath and denying any ties with Yorgen Fenech, the prime suspect behind ordering the murder.
“Muscat created a fictional story and chose to lie every time he spoke about our alleged involvement. We never received any money from Yorgen Fenech for any reason, not in connection with the Daphne Caruana Galizia case or for any other reasons. We knew nothing about the existence of this person until his arrest,” the statement read.
The brothers claim they received the payment for the murder “from a prominent government office in Valletta” instead.
It is their latest attempt to get authorities to act on their allegations, saying they could help drop names and details on “other serious crimes”.
“Melvin Theuma had conversations with his friends about his involvement in the Caruana Galizia murder, and we knew this because people were providing us with this information. This information also reached us through a senior police official. At the time of the incident, various people were mentioned, some of whom are still not known or investigated. However, we reiterate that Yorgen Fenech was never mentioned at that time.”
The brothers also expressed that they are ready to provide information about former minister Chris Cardona, former chief of staff Keith Schembri, ex-Police Commissioner Lawrence Cutajar as well as certain lawyers, persons of trust, and secret services officials.
“We now await that the authorities, if they are responsible and want justice to be done regarding various crimes we indicated and are pointing towards, take action against those individuals. We are witnesses. Now others must bear their own responsibility.”
A few months back, the Degiorgio brothers admitted to killing Caruana Galizia and were sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Corinne Vella from the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation responded to the letter, denying that the brothers did not know Fenech.
“Yorgen Fenech asked for a presidential pardon for Daphne’s murder. An innocent man does not ask to be pardoned for murder. During the compilation of evidence, it was shown that Yorgen Fenech was passing on money to the Degiorgio family via self-confessed middleman,
Melvin Theuma. Theuma testified under oath that he never mentioned Fenech’s name to the Degiorgios.”
