Degiorgio Brothers Sentence: 40 Years In Prison For Daphne Caruana Galizia Assassination
The Degiorgio brothers have been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
This comes after the brothers pleaded guilty to murdering Caruana Galizia, with the trial against them having started earlier today.
Judge Edwina Grima also ordered the brothers to pay around €43,000 in court expenses and the confiscation of all criminal proceeds, totalling €50,000.
The trial ended abruptly following a break in proceedings after the suspects’ lawyer announced that their clients were pleading guilty.
George and Alfred Degiorgio were accused of the assassination of investigative journalist Caruana Galizia, after her brutal assassination on 16th October 2017.
They were arrested in December 2017, along with Vince Muscat, who was last year sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for the murder as part of a plea deal.
This turn of events comes days before the five-year anniversary of the assassination of Caruana Galizia, with a number of events lined up to mark the day.
