The man is at risk of dying. It’s being reported that he has lost at least one leg due to the accident, as well as a considerable amount of blood.

The incident happened on a site used by a construction company near Triq il-Belt Valletta, Żurrieq, at around 5pm. Aside from the CPD, medical responders were also on site.

His identity, nationality and age have not yet been confirmed by authorities.

The actual operation took around two hours to complete, and saw responders entering into the actual machine to assist the man and eventually free him.

The CPD itself posted about the incident, briefly saying: “Another delicate teamwork operation held between the Civil Protection Malta officers and the Emergency Medical Team” alongside the hashtag #ToSaveAndProtect.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit has opened a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
