Detroit DJ Mike Grant is heading to our shores to play an annual show at Beachhaven for Batti Batti Records on 1st July.

Grant is a true Detroit dance music originator. From his beginnings as a DJ in the early 80s, Grant has been a part of many classic institutions while still managing to walk a unique path.

Whether it was one of the first DJs to have their mixes played for dancers on TV (WGPR’s The Scene), the first American DJ to secure a residency at the world-famous Tresor Club in Berlin, one of Detroit’s first radio mix show DJs as part of the “Street Beat” crew or included in the Detroit Historical Museum’s exhibit “Techno: Detroit’s Gift to the World,” the diversity and quality of his sounds allow him to stand out.

He is the owner of Moods & Grooves, a curated record label which boasts a catalogue of renowned and new artists, such as Moodyman, Andres, Mr G, Boo Williams, Glenn Underground, Rick Wade, Kyle Hall and Nico Lahs to name a few.

Mike Grant is not a new face to Malta, since in the naughties, he performed on a yearly basis for the House of Misfits, a local collective which at the time was at the forefront of quality underground music.

The music style of Mike Grant is a perfect blend between house and techno, maintaining a soulful yet energetic Detroit foundation.

His connection to Malta started when our own beloved Owen Jay met Mike Grant at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2001. In 2013, Owen Jay and Melchior Sultana joined Moods & Grooves with their release titled Movement EP and Mike made a remix for them for their release on DeepExplorer.

Grant is looking forward to performing again in Malta and reuniting with all the friends he made during his previous visits. He loved his time here so much that his Facebook cover photo is still from one of the old Misfits Shindigs!

Batti Batti is a Maltese record label which releases music on vinyl and digital. It started in 2018 by Owen Jay and since then has published 38 releases featuring  artists from across the globe.

The label is locally known for organising an annual boat party, however this year, the party will be held on land, at Beachaven Club, Xemxija.

The party will also feature Migz, Glanville, Owen Jay and Brian James.
