On a national level, the PL appears to enjoy the support of 39.4% of the electorate, a decline of 2.6 points since July, while the PN is supported by 19.9%, down by 5.9 points. 

This means the PN has hit its lowest score in a survey since June 2020, when the party was engaged in open warfare against its then leader Adrian Delia.  

Meanwhile, 22.5% of people said they don’t intend to vote, the highest it has been in several years. While ADPD has failed to capitalise on this sense of political apathy, only winning a measly 3.2% of support on a national level, the fact it has outpaced the main Opposition party among young voters will be a shot in the arm.

In fact, ADPD deputy leader Sandra Gauci hailed the survey’s findings as the result of non-stop work from the party in recent months.

PL is undoubtedly the big winner from this survey, with its nine-year dominance over Maltese politics showing no signs of abating, although the high degree of political apathy among the electorate should come as a concern.

PN is undoubtedly the big loser – although some could point at the relatively high margin of error among age subgroups as acknowledged by the MaltaToday survey, the main Opposition party should never be slipping behind a party that doesn’t have a seat in Parliament, particularly among such a crucial cohort of voters.
