Discussions With Banks Underway To Offer Services To Malta’s New Cannabis Clubs
Discussions are underway with a “leading” bank to ensure that Malta’s new cannabis associations will be able to access certain banking services.
This comes as Malta’s banks have historically ignored anything cannabis-related, leading to severe issues when it comes to the finances involved in these entities.
“I’m informed that discussions are underway with a leading bank. In the coming weeks discussions will continue with other local banks,” Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said in response to a parliamentary question by PL MP Cressida Galea.
It isn’t yet clear which services these discussions include exactly.
Last month, Reforms Junior Minister alongside ARUC chief Leonid McKay held a convention announcing the opening of applications for any NGO that wants to open a non-profit cannabis association on the island.
With applications set to open on 28th February, all eyes now turn to the protocol that these organisations will need to work within – and how much external support, be it from banks or the state, they’ll receive amidst this burgeoning sector.
Lovin Malta sat down with McKay to find out more about his vision for Malta’s cannabis strategy – watch this full interview below.
