Two of Malta’s most popular house and techno events have announced they’ll be halting events in light of new COVID-19 developments in Malta.

District and Glitch Series both separately said they would be monitoring the situation as it progressed, but that they didn’t feel comfortable risking people’s safety going forward.

“After considering developments over the past week we have decided not to open this Friday. We feel that taking some time to have a better understanding of the recent increase in cases and to ensure the safeguarding of your health, is the right thing to do,” District said today.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and decide on a week-by-week basis, as long as events are permitted. We will continue to respect any updates to official regulations,’ they continued.

Glitch Club Series, who had Helena Hauff set to play this Saturday, said they would be halting events “for the foreseeable future”.

“We have been monitoring the situation very closely and in light of recent events, we feel it’s time for us to take a step back,” Glitch said. “The COVID-19 pandemic is a reality we are living in, the circumstances are changing very quickly. The health and safety of our fans, artists and crew are paramount. We do not want anyone to put their loved ones at risk.”

“With great responsibility, we appeal to the rest of the industry to safeguard our future.”

Maltese DJ Ziggy also posted that he’d be halting his weekly events.

The two major promoters announcements come alongside similar announcements by G7 and Sound Salon.

And it’s not only the major promoters – events organised by everyone from CLASS to Elements have also been cancelled in light of a sudden spike in COVID-19 cases in Malta over the last week.
