A diver lost his life earlier today, and another is in serious condition after experiencing difficulties while diving near the coast of Marsaskala.

At 10.30am, the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) were requested to assist divers who were in distress about 1.4 nautical miles off the coast of Żonqor.

Once brought to land, the divers received medical assistance from a team at Mater Dei Hospital and were transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Unfortunately, one of the men passed away after a short time while the other was certified to be suffering from serious injuries.

Magistrate Joseph Mifsud is leading an inquiry and police investigations are ongoing.
