Doctors for Road Safety (DR4S) has appealed for the introduction of street surveillance, following today’s fatal accident in Żejtun.

“D4RS has to note with great regret once more the senseless loss of precious life on our roads. Our deepest condolences to the victim’s family in the first instance,” it said in a statement.

“D4RS believes it is high time that public video surveillance is put to better use to prevent such tragedies, rather than solely to analyse the aftermath,” it appealed.

Doctors for Road Safety is a voluntary organisation set up by Doctors & Medical Students as a group of professionals who directly see the repercussions of road traffic accidents regularly while on the job.

Earlier today, the body of a 51-year-old resident of Żejtun was found dead at Triq Anton Buttigieg in Żejtun, at around 11:45pm.

The victim was later identified as Antoine Degrabriele. Investigations are still ongoing to identify the driver which committed the hit and run.

What do you make of DR4S’s suggestion?
