Public Sex Videos and Late-Night Chaos Raise Concerns Over Malta’s Growing Disorder

Videos sent to Lovin Malta and circulating online appear to show a troubling rise in public disorder behaviour across some of the island’s busiest areas.
In recent weeks, footage has emerged of fire extinguishers being sprayed over crowds in the middle of Paceville, couples engaging in sexual acts in public, people climbing statues, and individuals urinating in the streets.
These scenes come alongside a steady stream of complaints from Swieqi and St Julian’s residents, who report sleepless nights due to blaring music, public brawls, and street noise that continues into the early hours of the morning.
Lovin Malta also received two separate videos of people engaging in indecent acts in public – one on a bench outside a Paceville apartment, and another on a balcony at Mercury Towers in broad daylight. A third similar video, also filmed in public, was posted directly to social media and amassed over 2.2 million likes, with many commenters describing it as just a “normal day in Malta”.
The Mercury Towers incident drew particular condemnation from Swieqi Vice Mayor Jordan Galea Pace, who highlighted that the act took place in broad daylight and in full view of bystanders, including children.
Taken together, the footage paints a concerning picture of public spaces descending into lawlessness – especially in nightlife hotspots. Residents are increasingly questioning the authorities’ ability – or willingness – to keep such behaviour in check.
Whether it’s 2.30am fights outside their homes, people climbing monuments, or reckless antics in the streets, many fear the situation is spiralling out of control.
