‘Doing The Unthinkable’: Fabio Spiteri’s Gruelling 1,300km Trek For Abandoned Animals Is Inspiring Malta
A Maltese man has taken on a absolutely ridiculous challenge to raise money for animal shelters across Malta – and it is inspiring the island.
Under soaring temperatures, Fabio is absolutely owning a brutal 1,130km triathlon in France challenge to raise €100,000 to be distributed among animal shelters in Malta – and people are noticing.
1. Animal Commissioner Alison Bezzina shared images of the Maltese father, recounting the physical pain he’s putting his body through to raise money for charity.
“Fabio Spiteri has been awake, swimming and biking incredible distances for more than 55 hours. The pain, the pain! He might be putting up a brave face but there isn’t a muscle in his body that’s not screaming right now,” Bezzina said, sharing images of the Maltese father as he battles his way through Colmar, France.
2. Sports Minister Clifton Grima praised the athlete, sharing an image of the man alongside a caption relaying the challenge, as well as the bicep emoji in reference to Fabio’s inhuman resilience.
3. And Malta’s very own inspirational marine endurance athlete Neil Agius noted just how insane Fabio’s challenge was – big words, considering Agius himself broke a world record for his own endurance.
Before the challenge, Fabio said: “I have two passions in life – sports and animals. Once again this year I want to fundraise for all animal shelters and cat feeders around Malta and Gozo. Since it’s a big brutal race where I have to really dig deep into my inner reserves, I am targeting €100,000 to be distributed to all shelters, considering the big problems they face every day especially now that they are full.”
