Matthew Caruana Galizia, the son of assassinated Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. has urged people not to attend either of the Labour Party’s or Nationalist Party’s political events this Sunday.

“Do not go to any rallies organised by party leaders. This is not a time for tribal politics.”

Following yesterday’s day of political reckoning, with revelations and resignations happening by the hour, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announced that he would be addressing a political event in Fgura. This morning, the Nationalist Party announced it would be holding a political protest on Sunday as well.

“Joseph Muscat wants us to go to war against each other. Our war is against corruption, against his office, the Office of the Prime Murderer. Join the protests,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Malta has seen a number of protests and events over the last week following the arrest of businessman Yorgen Fenech.

The Caruana Galizia family yesterday called for the immediate prosecution of Keith Schembri following his resignation as the Prime Minister’s chief of staff.

“Three years after our wife and mother revealed Keith Schembri’s financial crimes, two years after her assassination, Schembri has resigned as the Maltese prime minister Joseph Muscat’s chief of staff,” they said.

“We now urge the Maltese authorities to immediately prosecute Schembri for his wide-ranging and long-running criminal activity.”
