Driving Instructor Who Insulted Prof. Charmaine Gauci Removed From Malta Driving Instructors Association
The Malta Driving Instructors Association has removed the membership of the instructor who insulted Prof. Charmaine Gauci outside PBS Station yesterday evening.
In a statement, the association disassociated themselves from the driving instructor and condemned her actions.
“The MDIA does not in any way tolerate or represent the actions of this member, and is removing with immediate effect the membership of this instructor,” President Nicholas Bay said.
“The MDIA wishes to thank Profs Charmaine Gauci for her hard work with the relevant authorities to combat the situation Malta is in.”
Yesterday’s incident occurred when a driving instructor, who was waiting outside PBS station in Gwadiamangia, confronted Public Health Superintendent Gauci over the government’s change in policy not to ban their work in light of COVID-19.
Journalists had to intervene and police were brought on the scene for assistance.
At her daily press conference today, Profs. Gauci confirmed that police are investigating the incident.
As it stands, driving instructors are not entitled to the government scheme which would give employees whose industries are severely affected by COVID-19 €800 a month.
This comes after Transport Malta revoked their decision to suspend driving lessons to prevent possible spread of the coronavirus last Saturday 28th March.
