Jelle Rijpma, the 24-year-old Dutch man who brutally murdered his ex-girlfriend Shannon Mak, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison and was ordered to pay a fine of €33,665.44.

If the sum is not paid within a year, it will be converted to a term of imprisonment.

Rijpma had violently beaten and stabbed Mak in the neck. The victim was found in a pool of blood between two cars and a garden wall in Santa Venera. A trail of bloody handprints suggested she clung to the nearby wall before dying.

The crime happened in the early hours of 3rd August 2018. Her body was found a few hours later.

Back in October, Rijpma had pleaded guilty to the murder. Prior to that sitting, the accused had denied all charges brought against him.
