E-Scooter Clampdown Underway: 137 Vehicles Confiscated By Transport Malta Since Start Of Year
Enforcement on e-scooters has ramped up since the start of the year, with Transport Malta confiscating 137 of these vehicles from the streets.
Transport Malta was only given authority to enforce e-scooter rules in January, a task that was previously only entrusted to police and LESA officers.
The transport authority said it carried out several enforcement operations around Malta over the past few weeks, with special attention to localities such as St Julian’s, Sliema, St Paul’s Bay and Gżira where there is a strong use of e-scooters.
The 137 vehicles were confiscated for various reasons, including having an expired license or a license not attached to the vehicle, a failure to register the vehicle with Transport Malta and lacking a valid insurance policy.
“Operations of this kind will continue to be carried out in the coming days in order to ensure that the operation of these e-scooters is regulated as necessary,” said Transport Malta’s Director of Enforcement Patrick Pollacco.
“The Authority is committed to being more vigilant in enforcement by strengthening its presence on our roads. These e=scooters are being confiscated when these vehicles are not observing any existing traffic regulation.”
“I appeal to drivers to be responsible and observe the driving regulations.”
Do you think there should be more enforcement of e-scooters?
