Educators’ Union Head Warns Government Trying To Silence And ‘Starve’ Him
Graham Sansone, the head of the Union of Professional Educators (UPE), has warned that the government is actively trying to silence him.
“I have been in public life since my mid-thirties, offering my time and energy to improve the educational sector,” he said.
“I have given my all. Some people believe that being a public figure automatically endows you with an endless thick skin that allows you to bear the brunt of countless disgusting attacks.”
“I do have thick skin, and this is thanks to the grace of God, but I do not know if this resilience will last forever.”
“The same people who yesterday expressed how sorry they felt are the very individuals who, behind closed doors, are trying to destroy me personally and the union that over 3,500 educators trust,” he continued, saying he was taken aback by the “hypocrisy” behind some government officials’ reactions to the sudden death of Karl Gouder.
“Yes, you are reading correctly: the government is actively doing all it can to dismantle the union while also trying to silence me. As one of these individuals stated, it is ‘disgusting’. If they could, they would destroy me and starve me to death.”
Sansone’s outburst is believed to be related to an ongoing dispute with the government over his secondment as a full-time executive head of the UPE, which has been in place since 2019.
However, he declined to comment further when contacted by Lovin Malta.
Independent Gżira councillor Conrad Borg Manche shared Sansone’s post and said he resonates with his words.
“Having walked a similar path, I know firsthand the pain of betrayal, especially from those who claim to stand by you,” Borg Manche said.
“The hypocrisy is staggering—those same individuals working hardest to tear you down behind the scenes.”
“It’s a brutal reality when your dedication and sacrifices are met with such viciousness. But even as they try to break us, we must stand firm. They may try to silence us, but they will never destroy the truth.”
