Edwin Vassallo Urges PN To ‘Purge Liberals’ From Party In Light Of Pro-Life Protest Turnout

In light of yesterday’s huge pro-life protest, former PN MP Edwin Vassallo has urged the party to “purge” liberals.

“Now is the time for the PN to clean itself of liberals and regain its own thoughts,” Vassallo wrote in an opinion piece published on the blog of academic Simon Mercieca. “Now is the time for the PN to kick out the liberal political establishment that has turned it into a practically irrelevant party.”

“Both the [MaltaToday] survey and the protest show there is no life or future for liberal politics within the PN. Neither can liberal politics offer a future for our people.”

Vassallo said the pro-life protest, which attracted an estimated 20,000 people, should serve as a wake-up call to “woke” journalists and politicians.

“I am so pleased that a strong message was sent to woke journalists who tried to mock me by calling me a dinosaur. Well, we now know there are at least 20,000 other dinosaurs in Malta.”

“The PN received confirmation that the people will support it when it takes political decisions in line with its values. The party was losing public support because people wanted to turn it into a woke party, but today served as evidence that it can regain popularity if it sticks with its values.”

“If it stops being a woke party, people will realise that it is different from the government .”

A large PN contingent, led by Opposition Leader Bernard Grech, attended yesterday’s protest against a bill that would allow doctors to terminate pregnancies if they believe the mother’s life or health is at risk.

However, Jamie Vella, who heads the PN’s equality forum FOIPN and is vocally pro-choice, warned that some politicians who attended the protest have a “selective morality” as they hadn’t attended demonstrations in favour of LGBT+ rights and against racism.
