Elderly Floriana Woman Left With Dirty Water Leaking Through Ceiling For 12 Days
An 84-year-old Floriana woman was left with dirty water leaking through three of her ceilings for over 12 days, posing a great danger to her health and safety.
Lovin Malta was approached by the resident’s niece, who lamented the lack of attention and importance that this matter was given, and the dangers it was posing.
She detailed how water had been leaking through three ceilings since 1st July, making today the 12th day that dirty water has been coming down into their property.
The woman’s niece tried many solutions, from contacting the landlord of the leaking apartment, to speaking to the Environmental Health Directorate, to filing a police report together with a lawyer.
The report was filed on the grounds of a “dangerous structure and health hazard” due to the leaking water possibly leading to a collapse.
“At this point I’m desperate. I don’t know what else to do,” she told Lovin Malta.
“When I first tried contacting the Environmental Health Directorate, no one responded. Then I went there myself last week to physically file a report – however, I didn’t hear back from them,” she said.
Lovin Malta reached out to the Water Services Corporation, who specified that it does not fall within their remit, and the Environmental Health Directorate.
No statement was given, however, it seems that the Environmental Health Directorate has now contacted the affected residents, and an inspection is scheduled to be carried out tomorrow.
