An elderly woman has passed away after a fire broke out in her home in Ħal Tarxien. 

The police confirmed that the incident took place at roughly 6:30am this morning when the fire was reported in the woman’s home in Triq Betta. 

It is unclear at this stage what caused the fire, but the woman was certified dead on site.

A magisterial inquiry has been launched.
