Volt Reveals New Candidate Running In Malta’s General Election
Volt has revealed that Alexia DeBono, its Co-President, will be contesting the forthcoming general election on the 8th and 9th districts.
This means that Volt will have two candidates running on a total of four districts in the election, including Thomas ‘Kass’ Mallia. DeBono co-founded the party in 2020 and became its Co-President in 2021.
She says she believes in giving voters more choice in the election by presenting them with candidates who are ‘truly socially progressive.
According to their website, Volt Europa aims to build a federal Europe. This differs from the current supranational system in place in the EU. In layman’s terms, a federal Europe could mean bringing countries together as one federal unit.
Power would usually be shared between two or more levels of government with one central, federal government controlling areas such as defence and external relations. Regional governments would then be left to control policies related to areas like education and social services. All this would be enshrined in a Europe-wide constitution.
