Emma Portelli Bonnici has wished St Julian’s mayor Albert Buttigieg the best of luck in his new role as a member of parliament.

Portelli Bonnici expressed that while “this is not the result we wanted, it was one we expected” while reacting to the outcome of the casual election held today.

The casual election was held in the wake of former PN deputy leader Robert Arrigo’s death, vacating a seat in parliament, with Buttiegieg and Portelli Bonnici being the sole nominations for the race.

“Thank you all for your messages of support. We knew this was a long shot and this is not the result we wanted but one we expected. I wish Albert Buttigieg all the luck in his new role – we have more in common than one might think,” Portelli Bonnici said.

“I’m glad I took the step to submit my nomination for these casual elections, as it helped build some bridges between myself and Partit Nazzjonalista as well as with the electorate,” she expressed.

“As always, I remain available to the party and to anyone who might wish to reach out. As originally promised, I’m just getting started,” she said.
