The U.S. Embassy in Malta teamed up with The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise, and Industry today to kick off the fourth edition of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE).

This year’s cohort brings together over 30 ambitious women selected for the U.S. Department of State’s 2024 program.

The event, held at The Malta Chamber, saw U.S. Ambassador Constance J. Milstein and Chris Vassallo Cesareo, President of The Malta Chamber, express their excitement and support for the new participants.

Since its inception in Malta in 2022, the AWE program has been instrumental in providing Maltese women entrepreneurs with essential tools to grow their businesses, from mentorship and networking to pitching strategies for potential seed funding.

The program aims to foster innovation and deepen U.S.-Maltese economic ties, offering participants a chance to transform their business ideas into reality.

Ambassador Constance J. Milstein highlighted the importance of the initiative, saying, “As a businesswoman, AWE is particularly important to me. Your energy and innovation are truly the driving forces behind economic growth and social progress. We hope that all of you who go through this program will not only drive innovation in Malta and deepen U.S.-Maltese economic ties but also serve as role models and mentors to girls and young women seeking inspiration, guidance, and equal opportunities.”

Chris Vassallo Cesareo emphasised the program’s significance, noting, “The Malta Chamber is honoured to have once again been entrusted by the US Embassy and the U.S. Department of State to deliver the AWE program. This partnership reaffirms our commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and empowering women in business, recognising the untapped potential of women entrepreneurs in Malta.”

Throughout the program, participants will be challenged and supported by a community of peers, experts, and mentors.

Rachel Bondi Attard, Head of Media & Communications Strategy at The Malta Chamber, added, “Through this program, we aim to give you the tools, the guidance, and the confidence to navigate the world of business, no matter how daunting it may seem. This is just the beginning. Over the next months, you will be challenged, inspired, and pushed beyond your comfort zones.”

The AWE program is part of the U.S. government’s National Strategy on Gender Equity and Equality, which aims to uplift women’s economic empowerment worldwide.

With its presence in nearly 100 countries, AWE has already supported over 25,000 women entrepreneurs in building and growing their businesses globally.

With the continued collaboration between the U.S. Embassy and The Malta Chamber, the future looks bright for Maltese women eager to make their mark in the business world.

Stay tuned to see how these inspiring entrepreneurs continue to break new ground in the months to come.
