‘End The Stigma, Period’: Conference For ‘People Who Menstruate’ Announced In St Julian’s
Malta’s Human Rights Directorate has announced a new conference aiming to end the stigma around periods, and who gets them.
“Not everyone who gets periods identifies as a woman,” the Human Rights Directorate said as it rolled out it’s ‘End The Stigma, Period’ campaign.
“Stop referring to period products as ‘feminine hygiene’ products or ‘women’s health’ products. Instead, use language like: ‘people who menstruate’.”
The conference, held in commemoration of Menstrual Hygiene Day, will be held on 29th May, and you can register to attend here as well as submit any topics you’d like to be discussed.
Reforms Parliamentary Secretary Rebecca Buttigieg is expected to attend as well.
Malta’s regularly ranked number one for LGBT rights, and the new campaign focusing on language involving gender is a continued part of raising awareness amidst a modern understanding of sexuality and gender.
“Not all women menstruate, and not all people who menstruate are women.”
