Enemalta has confirmed that the turbine currently in operation at the old Marsa power station plant does not use heavy fuel oil and is a gasoil fired plant.

Replying to questions by Lovin Malta, Enemalta said that the the Marsa Gas Turbine is an open cycle gas turbine (OCGT) that uses gasoil (diesel) for firing.

“The machine forms part of the emergency backup plant portfolio available to Enemalta. In the present situation, the machine is dispatched whenever this is required”.

Meanwhile, Electrogas, the consortium behind the LNG power station in Delimara, dismissed concerns raised by PN activist and engineer Mark Anthony Sammut that one of its three turbines is most probably damaged and out of action.
