The Wildlife Rescue Team Malta has issued an entangled turtles alert after at least two turtles were spotted off the coast near Xwejni beach.

“Together with the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) we tried to locate them, however the rough seas and the dark made it impossible to safely get close to and and locate them,” the team said in an update from last night.

Unfortunately, this morning, rescuers were unable to locate the turtles.

“The entanglement they were stuck to was not on site anymore (probably became loose due to the rough seas).”
