EP President Roberta Metsola Furiously Lambasts ‘Failed’ Maltese Government

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has taken to social media to lambast the “incompetent” Maltese government – led by Prime Minister Robert Abela.

“When patients in a mental health hospital are left for long hours without light, in the heat, without electricity, in the dark, with doctors, nurses and professionals doing everything they can to keep them healthy and calm – everyone can see how much this Government has failed,” said Metsola on social media.

“It failed when it spent €700,000,000 from our taxes to fix the roads – and instead created a traffic problem that jammed the country.”

“It failed when it didn’t invest in the next generation. It failed when it allowed a laissez-faire attitude towards everything in every sector. It also failed when the standard it aimed for was mediocrity.”

Roberta Metsola is a Maltese MEP who has a fair bit of influence in Parliament – as President. Much of her time is spent dealing with international affairs, and seeking to promote democratic norms across the European Union.

Looking back towards Malta’s status quo seems to have deeply disappointed the EP President.

Though she has criticised the Maltese government’s approach to several issues in the past – this is her most clear, impassioned and frankly, angry, denunciation of the government thus far.

“The government failed when it treated the Gozo people as second-class-citizens.”

“It failed the businesses that tried to make a profit in a fair and honest way. It failed the Enemalta workers who are having to work 24 hours a day in high temperatures.”

“It failed those working in law enforcement who tried to catch and prosecute the corrupt.

“They failed Miriam Pace. They failed Daphne Caruana Galizia. They failed Jean Paul Sofia. They failed their families. They failed the workers they promised to protect.”

“They failed us all.”
