A lead dancer involved in the Dancing with Pride event held in Valletta last week in the run up to EuroPride 2023 has spoken out after social media was flooded with hateful comments about the involvement of children in the event.

“Well obviously I’m gonna comment about this… ” Luke Brincat started a lengthy status with.

“Not going to lie – I literally didn’t even read all the comments because it’s a waste of time but stopped at the first ‘let the kids be kids’ comment,” he continued, before getting into it.

So here’s my POV: Let the kids be kids.

If they want to play with dolls instead of toy cars; let them be kids.

If they want to become a dancer instead of a footballer; let them be kids.

If they want to watch Batman instead of Barbie; let them be kids.

If they want to wear pants instead of a dress; let them be kids.

If they want to wear a baseball cap instead of a bow; let them be kids.

If they want to have a pink bedroom instead of a blue one; let them be kids.

If they are “flamboyant” and love prancing around , stop telling them to man up or vice versa with the girls… let them be kids!

If they want to paint their nails or shave their hair; let them be kids.

His status garnered over 100 comments, with many praising his open approach to acceptance and sexuality.

In the wake of the reaction online, Malta’s Parliamentary Secretary Rebecca Buttigieg also responded, saying the island still has a lot to learn from its younger generations.

What do you make of Luke’s perspective?
