Eve Borg Bonello Should Resign For Comparing Robert Abela To Hitler, PL Activist Manuel Cuschieri Says
Longtime PL activist and former radio host Emanuel Cuschieri has called for Eve Borg Bonello to resign as a PN MP after she compared Prime Minister Robert Abela to Adolf Hitler.
“After what Eve Borg Bonello said about the Prime Minister and the murderer Hitler, she should apologise to the public and resign,” Cuschieri said.
In another post, Cuschieri said that Borg Bonello – who last year made history as the youngest MP in Malta’s history – is lowering Parliament’s standards.
“She compared Robert Abela to Hitler, se asked whether the PL is planning to remove elections and whether we are edging towards becoming a dictatorship. What a sad Opposition,” he said.
In Parliament this week, Borg Bonello delivered a fiery speech against the government’s proposed changes to the Standards Commissioner law that would allow the official to be appointed with a simple majority on the third round of voting.
Borg Bonello compared this bill to Nazi Germany’s infamous Enabling Act of 1933, which granted the German Cabinet the power to bypass the Reichstag when passing laws.
“When a position like this is based solely on the will of one side of the House, checks and balances disappear, and the position becomes a repressive one,” she warned.
“That was what happened in the thirties, when the Italian Fascists and the German Nazis voted in Parliament to strip their governments off this type of control. A little bit of research will immediately show you that authoritarian governments always use this recipe.”
