Young PN MP Eve Borg Bonello is receiving legal advice over whether or not to sue author Mark Camilleri for libel over a blogpost he wrote last year claiming she is “prone to rent-seeking and corruption”.

Lovin Malta is informed that Borg Bonello announced her plan to sue Camilleri during a PN executive meeting yesterday and that her remark caused some commotion.

She flagged a blogpost Camilleri wrote in April 2022, shortly after she had become the youngest MP in Maltese history. In it, Camilleri said Borg Bonello “strikes me as a young, pretentious, dumb kid prone to rent-seeking and corruption”.

Although Camilleri published the blog almost a year ago, Borg Bonello is believed to have said that she only found out about its existence recently.

Questioned by Lovin Malta, Borg Bonello said she cannot confirm or deny that she raised the issue in the PN executive. However, she confirmed she is speaking to her lawyers and that no decision has been taken yet.

A former PL delegate and National Book Council chairman, Camilleri broke away from the Labour Party at the 2022 general election and endorsed the PN.

He recently visited Dar Ċentrali, where PN secretary general Michael Piccinino showed him around the party’s library, and took a selfie with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.

Yesterday, he published hundreds of pages of WhatsApp texts between PL MP Rosianne Cutajar and murder suspect Yorgen Fenech. Borg Bonello was one of the first PN MPs to react to the leak, calling for the resignation of Cutajar from Parliament.
