‘Every Minute’s A Joke’: Major Backlash After Malta’s Manchester United Match Sparks Controversy

When Malta’s Tourism Ministry booked the female Manchester United team to play against Birkirkara, they probably didn’t expect so many things to go wrong in a single night.
But last night’s 10-0 loss to the English team was the least of the Ministry’s problems.
1. Before the match even begun, news that the bus taking Manchester players to match was stranded after the “road collapsed beneath it” hit British headlines.

2. As well as Maltese social media, with PN MP Adrian Delia calling it “complete incompetence”.
3. When the match finally began, the English team overwhelmed Malta’s side, beating then 10 – 0.

4. But even worse was the fact that Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo was snapped with a wide smile wearing a Manchester United shirt – and not a Birkirkara FC shirt.
“Now we are used to it: anytime Claytin Bartolo appears to be doing something, he’s doing it wrong,” activist Wayne Flask said.
5. PN MP Julie Zahra pointed out that Bartolo even contests on the 8th district, with includes Birkirkara.
6. By the end of the evening, most people watching were left scratching their heads at how such a series of failures could have occurred in such a short timeframe.
What do you make of last night’s series of unfortunate events?
