Ex-Consul General to Shanghai Aldo Cutajar and his wife Isabel have been released on bail while courts continue the compilation of evidence against them.
The Cutajars were charged with money laundering after police discovered €500,000 in cash during a raid on their Naxxar home and €400,000 in a Dubai bank account.
They are also accused of gardening illicit profits from Chinese visa sales and purchasing assets through criminal activity.
A number of bail conditions have been established, among which they sign at the Naxxar Police Station, they do not travel and are at home between 11pm and 6am.
A request order to lift the freeze of assets of the accused was denied by the Magistrate.
