Exclusive: Campus Hub Parking Tariff Dropping To €3 Per Day For University Of Malta Students
The price of parking your car in the new Campus Hub parking lot will be dropping to €3 per day – from a maximum of €12 – for all University of Malta students from tomorrow, Wednesday 2nd October.
The new change comes following widespread backlash after the parking lot’s pricing system was revealed – with a maximum charge of €12 for anyone parking for over 12 hours per day in the private parking lot.
Drivers will now be charged a maximum of €3 per day for each day they leave their cars within the Campus Hub lot – drivers must provide a valid University of Malta card to be able to access this price point.
Speaking to Lovin Malta, Campus Hub CEO Chris Vassallo said the company had “made a mistake” in its pricing list, and was ready to implement a new solution starting tomorrow that he hopes will support students and allow them to park in a more affordable manner.
“If we made a mistake, now we are listening,” Vassallo said. “I thank the students for speaking out, and I hear you – now, I would like to take the opportunity to ask KSU to help us to find ways to improve student life further, as well as invite all students to share any idea or feedback they have with us.”
Vassallo hopes to hold a meeting with KSU “within days” to further ensure that Campus Hub’s vision continues to be aligned with that of students, he said.
Earlier today, a number of student organisations said they’d be organising a protest named Students Over Profit this Friday, calling out the company following the price change. KSU itself also condemned the price increase, saying the operators were abusing the parking system, earlier this week.
The Campus Hub parking lot features around 450 to 500 parking bays, with the University of Malta featuring over 12,000 students.
The Campus Hub project saw several new building and facilities built right off campus, allowing international students to live in “fully-serviced” apartments while studying at UoM. Vassallo said it also provided several new outlets to the area, including Starbucks and The Cake Box, as well as new open spaces for students to enjoy.
