Extending A Cypress Branch? Government Plants 232 Trees In Żejtun

Triq Strejnu in Żejtun has just got 232 cypress trees, as the debate surrounding the constant uprooting of agricultural continues on.

Writing on social media, Żejtun’s Mayor Doris Abela thanked both Infrastructure Malta and Minister Ian Borg for their help in the project.

Both the minister and state authority are under intense scrutiny as the push on with their infrastructural plans, often at the ire of environmentalists and residents.

Trees have been uprooted all over the country to make room for roads, with the government insisting that (over time) more trees will occupy the areas.

Several demonstrations have been called. It is unlikely that the move will quell any concerns ahead of the national protest in September.
