Facing Years Behind Bars, Maltese Rapper One11 Is Baring Everything In His Latest Releases

A Maltese rapper facing years behind bars is determined to release banger after banger as his time may be running out.

One11 has been releasing music and performing locally for years now – but he’s recently levelled up his releases, teasing and releasing a series of releases throughout the summer.

His latest single, Bulletproof, produced by Siconix and featuring Jewels, showcases his particular take on frenetic, emotional RnB-tinged hip hop.

However, after being involved in a massive raid where police found around 132kg of weed – worth around €2.5 million – in a Burmarrad garage, and his case going to court, One11 feels like it’s now or never.

“I’ve always felt like I’m on the clock – aren’t we all?” One11 tells Lovin Malta.

“The court case is not an issue… you can never know what happens. But I know I’m gonna grow old and die anyway. Life is short and I wanna be able to accomplish all my goals while I still can.”

As far as One11 is concerned, this court case is just the latest in a lifetime of experiences that influence his music.

“Of course, this affects my writing just like every other experience… whatever God wants me to go through, I’ll do it, chin up chest out,” he said strongly.

And he’s letting his influences show in his music, with everything from drill beats to booming 808 bass heard throughout his sound.

“I dare to be different and to do what I love. I love drill, and I always wondered how it could sound in Maltese. I’m in a stage in life where I’m learning a lot about myself and the fact that I have the ability to try something new is a reason in itself to try.”

On his single Bulletproof, One11 teams up with Siconix and Jewels to craft his latest banger.

“Siconix is a legend when it comes to producing and engineering,” he says. “I know him and his intentions in this game so the vibes when we are working together is just love for music. Nonetheless, I’m learning a lot from the guy, let alone helping me with every step of the way.”

“And Jewels is just pure energy and when we met and came up with the idea to make a track together we both agreed without hesitation and hit the studio in a couple of days.”

For One11, Bulletproof’s message comes after clawing your way back after being betrayed.

“The song is about loyalty and respect between the family and the whole team.”

“In today’s world, it’s typical to be stabbed in the back or disrespected, Sometimes even your own friends can be the ones hating on your success. All you need in life is a couple of good genuine friends that will always have your back and with some loyalty and respect you can take over the world.”

“Bad experiences turn into lessons,” he says pointedly.

With big plans, a solid crew and a vision for this future, this is far from the last time we will hear from One11, no matter what the next few years hold.

“Most of the music I make is determined from the events I come across which make a big impact in my life, pushing me to level up and changing me into the person I ought to become.”

“My main purpose is to send a message through music, so it is my utmost priority to record and release music related to my past experiences… I’m hoping that whoever is listening will understand the message and stand firm with their families, and never turn their back on them.”
