Famed Italian Anti-Corruption Prosecutor To Address Malta Protest

Italian prosecutor and politician Antonio Di Pietro, famed for his role in the ‘Mani Pulite’ investigations into government corruption in the 1990s, will be the main speaker at the latest protest demanding justice for assassinated journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

As part of the investigations, Di Pietro and his team uncovered institutionalised corruption in which businesses routinely paid bribes to gain government contracts. The investigations resulted in the prosecution of top business executives and politicians and a change in Italy’s Constitution.

He will now address a protest in Valletta on Sunday 3rd December, in what will be the third major protest organised by the Civil Society Network since the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia last month.

The demonstration will also be addressed by writer Immanuel Mifsud, journalist Caroline Muscat, civil society network activist Miriam Galea and Italian investigative journalist Marilu Mastrogiovanni.

Civil Society Network is demanding the instant sackings of police commissioner Laurence Cutajar and Attorney General Peter Grech and is insisting their replacements should enjoy the support of at least two thirds of Parliament.
