‘Green Nonsense’: Family Doctor Calls Out Coverage On Zammit Lupi’s Malta-Sweden Cycle And ‘Zero-Emission Promotion’
It’s hard not to praise Steve Zammit Lupi’s incredible feat of cycling from Malta to Sweden in just 41 days… however, one Maltese family doctor did just that.
“If someone goes on a camping trip for six months, will they also get coverage in the Times? Will they also use that to convince people you can live the rest of your life in a field,” Jean Soler wrote on Facebook.
“This green nonsense is simply getting more absurd”.
This “green nonsense” is Steve Zammit Lupi’s, a young environmental activist and independent local councillor for Ħaż-Żebbuġ, 41-day trip, covering 4,400km of cycling through six European countries.
Zammit Lupi’s challenge showed that more eco-friendly modes of travel are indeed possible, and encourage cycling in Malta.
Fabio Spiteri, a locally famous cycling athlete, hit out at the doctor’s comment.
“Jean Karl Soler, as a family doctor and an occupational health specialist, you should applaud such a feat. Cycling 4400km, from Malta to Stockholm, zero emissions, meeting people, living an adventure outdoors, is something we all should be proud of,” he said.
“What is absurd here, is an overweight doctor with a mentality against outdoor lifestyle and cycling.”
