February Is Here And The Weather In Malta Is… Fine?

Article Featured Image

It’s been a long and eventful first 31 days for Malta’s weather in 2019. Sure, we (apparently not so narrowly) avoided a Mediterranean hurricane, were far away enough from a volcanic eruption to not be too effected by it, and aren’t currently experiencing a polar vortex throwing temperatures to -40°C. But we still had our very wet, very windy and very stormy moments. Now, when it’s all meant to really kick off, we might be getting a bit of a rest.

February, which is usually particularly rainy and windy (and has already been responsible for at least two shipwrecks in the same spot throughout the years), has kicked off with relatively better weather than the last couple of weeks.

This whole weekend is set to be mainly sunny, with today’s highs of 18°C set to only get warmer by tomorrow. In fact, 2nd February is set to be one of the first days of 2019 which will register a temperature in the 20°Cs. The evenings will also be rather warm, with the temperature never getting colder than 13°C (equal to some of the last weeks’ highs, if anything).

Of course, this doesn’t mean all of February is going to be warm and sunny

In fact, this weekend will be closing on a much cooler note, with highs going down to 16°C and the lows dropping all the way down to 9°C again.

There will also be changes to the winds blowing over the island, which will suddenly shift from southerly gusts of Force 4 and 5 to – in classic February fashion – strong northwesterly winds.

By Monday, it looks like Malta will be gearing back into winter mode, with isolated showers and strong winds that might quickly go all the way up to Force 7. Ah well, it was good while it lasted!
