Financial markets commentator Paul Bonello has accused RTK103 of lying about the reasons for the cancellation of his segment on the radio programme ‘Għal Kulħadd’, insisting that he was prepared to confirm his claims in “a sworn affidavit”.

Earlier today, Bonello said on Facebook that he had been contacted by RTK103 and informed that his segment on the programme would no longer be continued. In his post, Bonello questioned whether his comments in relation to the rumoured acquisition of HSBC Malta by APS Bank were the reason for this sudden change.

RTK103 editor-in-chief Matthew Xuereb denied this was the case, insisting in a statement that the decision had been taken as a result of changes to the new RTK103 schedule.

Now Bonello has doubled down, accusing Xuereb of being dishonest. According to Bonello, the programme’s host Christine Delicata had been requesting that he end his summer break early and return to the programme as early as possible.

The first programme in this autumn’s schedule, Bonello said, was due to take place next week. “I was in frequent contact with Ms Delicata about the content right up to last Friday. No doubt Ms Delicata can confirm this.”

Bonello said he would be willing to confirm his version of events “by a sworn affidavit” and provided Lovin Malta with email communication between him and Delicata in relation to next week’s programme.

“Is Matthew Xuereb on his part prepared to take a sworn affidavit to confirm the veracity of his statement?” Bonello asked.

Xuereb has insisted that he has nothing to add that the statement issued by RTK103 was factual.
