At least five people were killed and more than 25 wounded after a queer nightclub in Colorado Springs faced a shooting.

The aggressor has been identified as 22-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrich, who is currently in custody after receiving medical attention following his arrest. 

This is yet another shocking occurrence in the epidemic of gun violence in America, with schools and gay communities often being targeted.

“The violent news from Colorado springs is sickening and heartbreaking – the more so because there is a pattern,” American politician Pete Buttigieg expressed in a tweet.

“We can not will not, allow hate to win. We must end this in our time. No rest until all of us, including all of us in the LGBTIQ+ community, can be, and feel, safe,” he said. 

Police are still investigating whether this was a hate crime, and have said that it is too early to determine it as such for now.
