Five young men have pleaded guilty to assaulting Liam Debono at his workplace, allegedly with a whip, on Friday.
The 17-year-old, who is facing charges for the attempted murder of policeman Simon Schembri, was assaulted by a group of young men, aged between 15 and 25, at his workplace in Luqa.
Debono was hospitalised after the attack, where he was confirmed to have sustained light injuries to his face and body, before uploading a photo to Facebook showing his injuries and commenting on the fact that five people attacked him when he was alone.
Police reportedly don’t believe the fight had anything to do with the Simon Schembri case, but rather suspect it occurred over a young woman.
Sarah Zerafa and Paul Camilleri led the prosecution, while Debono’s defence lawyers Franco Debono and Amadeus Cachia appeared parte civile for him.
The 17-year-old is currently on trial for the attempted murder of Police Constable Simon Schembri, who Debono allegedly dragged for 400m under his car in a hit-and-run in Luqa. He is currently out on provisory bail after giving a €10,000 deposit and a €40,000 personal guarantee.
