FKNK Head Warns Of ‘Wave Of Cancellation’ Against Fireworks

FKNK president Lucas Micallef warned that the tradition of Maltese fireworks is under threat by a “wave of hatred and cancellation”.
Micallef spoke out following the circulation of a video showing fireworks exploding over horses in a Mosta field.
“A wave of hatred and cancellation is being formed against culture,” he warned.
“Back in 2015, when an an extremist faction called for a referendum against spring hunting, FKNK warned that we were being targeted today but it could be other hobbyists tomorrow.”
“In recent weeks, we have seen a wave of action against horse and fireworks enthusiasts, and a petition has started circulating to ban fireworks altogether.”
“We absolutely don’t want to mistreat any animal but we cannot go to the other extreme and ban people’s passions just because someone doesn’t like fireworks. We can’t be passive. We must be focused and united.”
