Food Items Saw The Highest Inflation Rate For July In Malta

Food items saw the highest inflation rate registered for the month of July, the National Statistic Office has recently found.

In July, the annual rate of inflation measured was 6.82%, up from the 6.21% measured in June 2022.

The largest upward impact on annual inflation was measured in the Food Index at +2.47%, while the downward impact was recorded in the Clothing and footwear Index.

The increased impact of inflation on the Food Index mainly came about due to the higher prices of takeaway services.

The highest inflation rates were also registered in housing, at an increase of 1.21% in property prices since June.

When compared with the rest of Europe, Malta has registered the lowest annual inflation rate in the EU, according to Eurostat.

Malta registered the lowest annual inflation rate at 6.1%. This was followed by France (6.5%), and Finland (8.1%).
