History has been made after the Civil Protection Department inaugurated three women as firefighters for the first time ever earlier today.

129 firefighters have joined the force along with the three women after completing an 18-week training course. This also happens to be the largest intake the force has seen over the past two decades.

The Minister of Interior and National Security Michael Farrugia, who presided over the ceremony, stressed that these women will be the ambassadors of the department and will hopefully attract more women to join the Civil Protection.

Farrugia also spoke about a seven-year plan the department had implemented to strengthen its forces and the investments made, including upgrades to vehicles.

Congratulations to all the recruits and to the ladies paving the way for future recruits!
